An RFID Portal
Installation and System
Integration Project
System Architecture
Lowe Rental are commercial refrigeration specialists. They provide rental of refrigeration and catering
equipment. As such it is very important for them to keep track of their stock. Quick turnaround of equipment
returned directly helps to increase the revenue they earn per asset.
RFID portals were an ideal solution because it allowed them to record the return of an asset at the point
and
time of return. Every asset was tagged, and the RFID portals recorded the return of the assets to the
warehouse instantly.
System Integration
The asset numbers were read by the RFID portal
and posted to the cloud backend. A software
integration piece was developed for Lowe Rental
to convert the information read by the RFID
portal into a format that was accepted by their
ERP system. This allowed the ERP system to
have up to date information on the availability of
stock for rental.
In order to avoid false reads and minimise
unnecessary reads, a break beam was used in
the portal to ensure that the RFID portal was
"woken up" only when there was activity through
the portal. This also helped to minimise the
consumption of bandwith.
